How skipping breakfast will get you ripped

Breakfast might not be the most important meal of the day anymore. In fact, it might be worth skipping altogether. If you’re getting ready to yell at me because you’re having flashbacks to everything you’ve ever read saying you should never skip breakfast (especially for weight loss)—don’t worry, I was too. But the more I read about intermittent fasting, the more accepting I became of kissing breakfast goodbye. I failed to find scientific evidence that skipping breakfast leads to weight gain like I had heard so often. On the other hand, I found plenty of scientific evidence that intermittent fasting is an effective and healthy option.

Intermittent fasting is taking the fitness world by storm and for a good reason; it’s yields results. While there are several variations of fasting, a popular version is the 16/8 method. You fast for 16 hours over night and restrict your meals to an 8 hour window.

Fasting can help with weight loss and, despite popular belief, can actually help you build muscle. During a fast, your body starts producing more growth hormones, leading to muscle and bone growth. In addition, just like a Ketogenic diet, fasting puts our body in a state of Ketosis. This means your body starts burning fat instead of carbs for energy.

So how effective is it? If you ask M43 Fitness founder, Scott Abramouski, he’ll tell you that a Keto diet and intermittent fasting are his go-tos depending on his client and their goal. So fasting can be really great, but if you’re eating nothing but junk during your 8 hour window, it won’t be as effective as following a low carb or Ketogenic diet.
